Carers Week is “an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK” (Carersweek.org). The event runs between the 6th and 12th June 2022 and the theme is “make caring visible, valued and supported”. Events will be taking place across The UK but there are a couple of events taking place in Swansea.
The Swansea University Egypt Centre – 7th June
For Carers Week, The Swansea University Egypt Centre have arranged a special session for Carers of People living with dementia/memory loss. On Tuesday June 7th 2pm to 3.30pm Carers are invited to the Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea University, SA2 8PZ, to a special ‘Thank You Carers’ event when people can enjoy an information session from historians and handle the artefacts. Swansea Carer Centre – 9th June
You are invited invited to The Carers Week Celebration with Swansea Carers Centre. They will be hosting a special day of activities on Thursday, June 9th, between 10am and 3pm at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea. This includes Lunch, Arts & Crafts, Yoga, Dance class, Willow Weaving, Bouquet Making, Manicures, Hand Massages, Wood Whittling, Stalls and much more! Booking via Eventbrite is required but it is free. For more details about the day, parking, covid-19 requirements and food requirements can be found on the Swansea Carers website.
Events Outside Swansea
If you’re unable to attend either of the events above but are interested in Carers Week events outside Swansea then do check out the map at Careersweek.org. This lists various activities taking place during June including stands at locations such as Porthcawl, Bridgend, Pyle and Barry. There are also Zoom meetings on a number of topics including Carer to Carer Tips, Speech and Language Therapy Tips for Carers, Carers Rights and a Wellbeing Morning.
