This year, the Alzheimer’s Society are holding their Dementia Action Week from May 15th – May 21st. It is a national event that sees the UK public taking action to improve the lives of people affected by dementia. To mark this, Dementia Friendly Swansea has teamed up with Swansea BID to to raise awareness and understanding of dementia among businesses and staff in Swansea City Centre with a workshop during that Dementia Action Week.

The 2 hour workshop on May 23rd will provide an overview of what dementia is, how it affects individuals and covers the challenges that people with dementia may face. Participants will learn how to recognise when a customer or client may be experiencing dementia-related difficulties, and how to communicate effectively and with compassion in these situations.

The session will also cover practical strategies for creating a dementia-friendly environment, such as making physical adjustments to the business premises, providing clear signage and training staff to respond appropriately to customers with dementia.

Participants will learn about the importance of person-centred care and the role of businesses in supporting individuals with dementia and their families.

The session will be held in Morgans Hotel (Somerset Pl, Swansea SA1 1RR) on Tuesday the 23rd of May (6pm – 8pm). This session will be led by volunteers from Dementia Friendly Swansea.
