The Dementia Hwb Bridgend had its Grand Opening on Wednesday 11th January 2023. The event saw 48 people from the local community and community organisations attend the event at 63 Nolton Street, Bridgend CF31 3AE to celebrate the official opening of the Hwb.

The Hwb Team were pleased to see so many people coming to support the opening of the Dementia Hwb Bridgend, which provides a safe community space for people living with dementia and carers to access information and wellbeing activities to reduce loneliness and isolation and promote independence.

The Hwb was officially opened by Cllr Mayor Martyn Jones. Cllr Mayor Jones shared his recent experience of visiting a lady with dementia, whom he has known since a young age, not recognising him when he greeted her. He acknowledged how much more difficult this must be for family and friends and how this experience had impacted on him. This personal account resonated with everyone in the room and served as a reminder for the importance of the project.

Michaela Moore, director of Mental Health Matters Wales, thanked everyone involved in setting up the Dementia Hwb Bridgend for their ongoing commitment and passion for this project. Congratulations to everyone at Mental Health Matters Wales and Dementia Friendly Swansea for making yesterday a big success.
