Caring for someone with dementia can be difficult as the symptoms and affects change over time. There are times when we could all do with an expert who can give us personalised advice for our situations. This is what you can get with the Swansea Carers Centre popular Demystifying Dementia Course which starts again from Friday 5th May.

Swansea Carers Centre is pleased to welcome Nick Johnson back for another 6 weeks of the popular Demystifying Dementia course. This is FREE for carers of someone living with dementia and the informative informal sessions are held in the Carers Cwtsh weekly over a 6 week period.

Nick Johnson is a Dementia Care Specialist and physiotherapist, working in the Swansea Bay University Bay Health Board for over 10 years. Nick has worked closely with some of the leading world experts in Dementia Care including Teepa Snow and is a Teepa Snow Positive Approach to Care Certified Consultant. He is dedicated to ensuring people living with Dementia and their care partners have access to personalised input to meet their individual needs.

Here’s what carers who’ve taken part in the course have said:

‘The Trainer often speaks in the first person – as through the eyes and mind of the
person living with dementia. This really helps to illustrate a better understanding/
approach and support system by the Carer’.

‘The simple explanation of how the Brain works… has given me the opportunity to
remove a major reason for discord in our lives.’

‘It was enlightening, realised that the behaviours being exhibited by our cared for
person are expected in someone with dementia.’

‘Listening to other Carers and their experiences was very beneficial to me.’
